| A combination of brains, brawn, size, athleticism and fundamentals, Mike Schachtner (pronounced: "SHOCK-ner") had a well-decorated collegiate career at Wisconsin-Green Bay, which included conference and national honors for his abilities on and off-the court. Schachtner, one of the best shooting big men in college basketball, was twice a second-team All-Horizon Conference selection and he was honored three times as an Academic All-American. The 6’9 (2.05m), 220-pound (100kg) power forward, Schachtner was a four-year starter at Green Bay, and finished his career as the Phoenix’ fifth best career scoring leader (1,667 points) and all-time career leader in free throw accuracy (88.3%). He averaged double-figures in scoring in each of his four seasons at Green Bay (10.3 ppg: freshman; 14.9 ppg: soph; 15.8 ppg: junior; 11.6 ppg: senior) and shot over 90% from the free throw line in his sophomore and juniors seasons, respectively. This past season, on a very balanced squad (with 4 players averaging double-digits), Schachtner was the third leading scorer on the 22-11 Phoenix squad, averaging 11.6 points and 4.5 rebounds in 25.2 minutes per game (shooting 46% for 2FG, 43% for 3FG and 89% for FT). A deadly 3-point shooter, Schachtner made 150 3-pointers in his Green Bay career, shooting 43.4% for his 4-year NCAA career from behind the 3-point arc. His personal best for 3-pointers made in a game was 7, which he accomplished twice. The farmboy from Somerset, Wisconsin had a 34 points in 33 minutes in a conference road game at Valparaiso in his junior campaign, where he was a perfect 7 for 7 behind the 3-point arc. Schachtner’s career high points game was 36 points (33 minutes), during his sophomore year when he nailed 7 of 8 3-pointers (along with a perfect 7 of 7 from the free throw line) against Chicago State. The man can shoot! Aside from being a deadly shooter, he is known for his ability to handle the ball, his toughness, ability to run the floor well for his height, and solid defensive fundamentals. Schachtner had over 500 rebounds at Green Bay; he’s a solid rebounder and his body has the frame to add more muscle during his pro career. He guards the post well and has the lateral quickness to defend on the perimeter. He had 87 double-digit scoring games in his NCAA career and scored over 30 points on three occasions. As much scoring as he did on the court, Schachtner was an extremely high-achiever in the classroom. Honored 3 times as an Academic All-American, the psychology major was a 4-year member of the Dean’s List, and had a 3.81 (on a 4.0 scale) grade point average. Schachtner will showcase his talents before professional teams at the 10th Annual Court Side Pro Camp on the UNLV campus in Las Vegas, Nevada (USA), to be held July 14-16, 2009. |
